This is nothing to do with the lesson, ut I just wanted to say Hi from Tuscany. My first visit to Italy. I am only at newbie level in Italian, but it has been useful to be able to ask for directions etc.
Most people here seem to speak some English, at least in the towns and cities, due to the large number of American tourists.
Enjoying the lessons.

I'm not sure which lesson to post this in; I'm trying to figure out the difference between "frenare" and "rompere." Are they equivalent?
I have to say I LOVE this site! I've checked out a bunch of other Italian language sites, and none of them compare. You make each lesson fun and entertaining, the dialogues are funny, always with useful vocabulary, idioms and expressions, and Marco and Catherine are just so fun to listen to. :-)
I swear, on all the other sites I checked out the hosts were so obviously reading-from-a-script-and-sounding-like-robots -- BLEAH!
You guys ROCK!
I'm leaving in a week for 2 1/2 weeks in Italy (Rome for 7 nights, Siena for 1, Florence for 4, Venice for 3), studied Italian for 4 semesters in college, but have not had a chance to use it since, [ahem] years later. What a godsend that I discovered your site! I think I have a chance of sounding like a slow 5-year old now! ;-)

Hi salsagrrl375!
"Frenare" and "rompere" are two words of different meaning.
1 "Frenare" is "to brake", "to stop".
es : frenare la macchina, frenare la bicicletta.
2 "Rompere" is "to break"
es : rompere un vetro, rompere un piatto, rompere un giocattolo.
Hope that I cleared it up.
Thanks for the compliments, but I think that Catherine and Marco deserve them more then me so they need to reply.
Buon viaggio in Italia! if u need some advice for Siena and Florence don't hesitate to ask I know them very well ;-)

salsagrrl375,
grazie mille per tutti i complimenti!
Sounds like you're going to have a very nice trip around Italy.
Make sure to listen to our Culture show "Ci scusiamo per il ritardo" about Venice coming out tomorrow if you want to know some travel advice.
And keep us updated on your trip, we want to hear all about it!
