Is there a stigma in Italy if you don't use the bidet? What if I just took a shower everyday like I do here? Or are they still concerned about water? When I went to Florence in the 90's I remember my girlfriend saying they only shower every other day or something like that. Does this still hold true? If I don't have body oder, will I not fit in? I mean, I am going to Rome this time and you know what they say about Rome. When in Rome...

hahaha!
there should be more info about bidet for non native bidet users :)
don't worry jaandlu, shower is fine, but if you want to blend in I advise you to get used to the bidet! At least for the sake of experience.
I think shower frequency ratio is a subjective thing, but I would reckon once every two days is a good average for winter, and once to twice a day in summer.

I agree, there should be. Thanks for the info. I am glad my frequent showering won't cramp my style.

In Sicily water is a very big concern. They use cisterns in the cities to capture rain water. Seeing how they conserve water inspired us to replace our toilet with a dual flush model. They have dual flush toilets in Italy which says a large amount of water. Where we live here in the US water is becoming a very big concern.
We did however take daily showers while in Sicily. We did not however, discuss bathing habits with out hosts.

Is there another word for the towel that is not for the hands? ;-)
